    This is a very useful feature to have so that one could define one set of rules for "normal" commits (where more strict policy rules could be defined) and another set of commits, that check for merge operation policy restrictions only (e.g. team leads/admins merging to main development branch only - something existing rule policy currently in place cannot accommodate).

    It would be great to have this feature as this is exactly what we need to comply to our internal configuration management plan. As George noticed, regular commits and merge commits may have different and specific checks to comply to.
