Archiving personal spaces

Personal spaces are currently completely ignored by the plugin, but some users use their personal spaces for "drafting" purposes (before promoting content to global spaces). It results in stale personal content, which would benefit from archiving.

All features should work in some similar way as in global spaces.

This should definitely be included as a feature. Not only do our users sometimes user their personal space for drafting purposes, but many also house published content in their spaces indefinitely, and the content is widely used across the company for some time. This content needs to be maintainable through archiving the same as content in global spaces. We currently have over 2k personal spaces (almost 1 for every user) and as we continue to grow and scale up, we need the plugin to be able to keep us organized across all spaces.

    Absolutely!

We have plenty of outdated personal-space content that is polluting the search results and leading people to work-in-progress or outdated information. We could protect the personal spaces so that they are only readable for the person/team, but we do like to keep our Confluence "transparent"!

I'm not sure I'd want a separate archived space for personal spaces (a private tree in the personal space would suffice). What we do need though is content quality reporting on personal spaces. We're mostly using the add-on to try to maintain the quality of search results and personal spaces that are open to all users will come up in these results, so only knowing the quality of the site spaces is not enough data.

Archiving on personal spaces would be useful for us. Here is a use case:

Each user in our Confluence instance has her/his own personal Confluence space. Users are managed from outside (LDAP). When a user leaves our company, the Confluence Account is being removed, but the personal space rests. As the content usually gets outdated when a user leaves, it should be possible to archive the personal spaces of users that no longer exist.

This would be very helpful in cleaning up our Confluence instance. We have a large number of users, 66,000+, many create personal Spaces. With a large user base that is constantly changing, we would like to archive stale and abandoned spaces.

We have a very large user base that continues to grow.  This would be useful to be able to archive content in personal spaces.

we have plenty of personal spaces for inactive users and really old pages all of those would be good to archive and give sign for users that do not use anymore (move needed pages to active spaces).

    Hi Tobias,

Thanks for your follow-up on this!

We can only reiterate our last message at this time.
Archiving personal spaces will come to the DC version and development progress has already been made on it.

However, resources are locked down with the development of the cloud version. Once that is released, the focus will return to features like this. I still can't offer exact release dates, just want to reassure you that this is not forgotten.

UPDATE: We have released the Better Content Archiving app's cloud version just a few weeks ago. It addresses many points criticized in the Data Center version, including also this one.

(Our plan is that, if there is interest, we will back-port the most valuable changes from the Cloud version to the Data Center one.)

The cloud version works in personal spaces in the same way like it does in shared spaces!

In the screenshot above, for example, you can see an icon in the first column which is a "person" symbol for personal, and a "building" symbol for shared spaces in the Content Status Overview report. (Of course, you can see only those spaces that you "view" permission on.)

🔥 Try this in action now!
