    Excel has moved to encouraging users to leveraging their Data model and Power Pivot to allow for a more robust framework to broaden what is possible in a pivot table.This allows you to far surpass the limitation of calculated fields or items.

    The excel feature "Distinct Count"  require the underpinning  of the Data model to support.leveraging it.  Distinct count is especially crucial for example if you have an IDs that repeat themselves various times in a given column and you want to get a unique count of how many different ID's are shown in the report.

    This is especially needed to help collate and average state transition times within a Jira workflow.  You need to know the distinct count of unique jira ids against the total state time of all tickets to get an average.  This is a fundamental report.
